Bound Away My Lassie

Words & music traditional

For the sake of you, my lassie,
I'm bound away, my lassie.
For the sake of you, my lassie
I'm bound away.

Bound to sail the seas to China,
I'm bound away, my lassie.
Bound upon an ocean liner,
I'm bound away.

Bound to cross the rollin' ocean,
I'm bound away, my lassie.
Bound away without commotion,
I'm bound away.

So, dry your tears, have no more sorrow
I'm bound away, my lassie.
For the packet sails tomorrow,
I'm bound away.

For the sake of you, my lassie.
I'm bound away, my lassie.
For the sake of you, my lassie.
I'm bound away.

"Bound Away My Lassie" - traditional (1860 - 1880) capstan bar shanty. First heard by Ken from singing of Captain Bob Roberts of Pin Mill - last working British ailing barge skipper. His barge was "Cambria", now preserved St. Katherine's Dock, London. Ken used to sing with Captain Roberts in Ryde, Isle of Wight and at the Folly Inn in late 1970's when Bob was skipper of the coaster "Vectis Isle", and when he retired, many happy evenings with Bob and his second wife Sheila occurred.
