Drink a Tot to Me

Words traditional
Music traditional: "Drink A Tot To Me"

If you hear that I've met my Maker,
Head for the bar with the undertaker.
Ask for a tot of Pusser's Rum,
Drink to me and have good fun!

For if the fire's aboard our ship - drink a tot to me!
And if the hull begins to drip - drink a tot to me!
If I pause to walk the plank - drink a tot to me!
If you hear that we have sank - drink a tot to me!

And when me dying day has come and I am lost at sea - (hey!)
Pass around the Pusser's Rum! Drink a tot to me!
It I catch a cannon ball - drink a tot to me!
And if a cutlass makes me fall - drink a tot to me
If I die in my lover s bed - drink a tot to me!
It the mast falls on me head - drink a tot to me!
And when me dying day has come...
If I'm swallowed by a whale - drink a tot to me!
If I'm knocked down in a gale - drink a tot to me!
If I'm floating belly-up - drink a tot to me!
Sing this song and fill your cup! - drink a tot to me!
And when me dying day has come...

"Drink A Tot To Me" - We learnt this song from our American friend Simon Spalding in 1977. In his opinion it was the last song sung by 84-year old Stan Hugill on the occasion of a festive promotion of the famous “Pusser’s Rum” and he assured us that he totally shares the author’s view. We share this opinion too, although unfortunately the author is still not known to us.

"Wypij za mnie lyk" is a Polish version of this song.
