Plynmy do Australii

Polish words: Jerzy Rogacki
Music traditional:"South Australia"

Australia po nocach nam sie sni,
Heave away! Haul away!
Czy kiedys sie spelnia nasze sny?
Hej, plynmy do Australii.

    Heave away, poplynmy tam,
    Heave away! Haul away!
    Plynmy do Australii bram.
    Hej, plynmy do Australii!
W Australii kilku kumpli mam.
Poplynac chcialbym kiedys tam.
    Heave away, poplynmy tam...
Baltyk zwiedzilem wzdluz i wszerz
I na Polnocnym bylem tez.
    Heave away, poplynmy tam...
Atlantyk nie jest taki zly,
Lecz plynac trzeba wiele dni.
    Heave away, poplynmy tam...
Po drodze chcialbym przejsc Cape Horn.
Od lat po nocach snil mi sie on.
    Heave away, poplynmy tam...
Pacyfik spokojny powinien byc,
Choc roznie tam bywa, co tu kryc.
    Heave away, poplynmy tam...
W Australii znajde goscinny dom,
Chociaz to tak daleko stad.
    Heave away, poplynmy tam...
Przed laty za kare plywali tam.
Dzis kazdy pcha sie do jej bram.
    Heave away, poplynmy tam...
Australia po nocach mi sie sni,
Czas by wreszcie sie spelnily sny.
    Heave away, poplynmy tam...

"Plynmy do Australii" ("Let's Sail to Australia") - the traditional song "South Australia" was used as a halyard shanty as well as capstan shanty, with the rhythm changed according to the nature of the work. This is probably the reason that two responses exist: "Haul Away", as well as ,"Heave Away"; which is something that very seldom happens in shanties. Our version is not a translation but, although somewhat stylised on a shanty, was specially written to commemorate the occasion of the "Tall Ship Races Australia '87 ". We have used the melody of the national anthem, "Advance Australia Fair", as an instrumental bridge.
Note: Another version ( in English) sung by Simon Spalding can be found om the cassette: "Round the Capstan".
