Silny wiatr zachodni w morze ja gnal.

- O! Roll, "Alabama", roll!

"Roll Alabama" - a shortened story of the famous Confederate ship "Alabama" which, during two years of the American Civil War, destroyed sixty four ships. Her career ended on 19th June, near Cherbourg, where she was sunk by the USS "Kersarge", commanded by Captain J.A. Winslow. The song about "Alabama" was sung as a halyard shanty with a tune adopted from a traditional Negro folk song from the South.
