"The Rosabella" - zapis tej pieśni znaleziono w archiwach muzeum w Watchet (Somerset), jednego z ważniejszych w połowie XIX w. portów Kanału Bristolskiego. Pochodzi ona z 1860 r. ale dopiero w 1980 znalazła się w zbiorze Toma Browna. W okresie, którego dotyczy pieśń, istniała silna rywalizacja pomiędzy żeglarzami przybrzeżnymi i rybakami, a żeglarzami dalekomorskimi. Wielu młodych ludzi zgłaszało się na ochotnika na bardzo długie, nierzadko kilkumiesięczne rejsy. Niektórzy trafiali na statek ("down to board") w stanie zamroczenia alkoholowego. "Rosabella" była barkiem, zbudowanym przez Portugalczyków lub Hiszpanów. Z Watchet wychodziła w długie rejsy do Australii lub do Ameryki (Frisco) z ładunkiem wełny, cegieł, maszyn i urządzeń przemysłowych. Nic dziwnego więc, że rok po wypłynięciu, również w maju, mogła przechodzić przylądek Horn. W późniejszych latach port Watchet stracił na znaczeniu a zastąpiły go porty Bristol i Avonmouth.
